Professional window cleaning equipment

Professional window cleaning equipment differs from retail cleaning gear in three ways: the rubber holds an edge for hundreds of windows rather than dozens, the poles carry water to height without flexing, and every wearing part can be replaced instead of binned. That is what separates a trade tool from a hardware-store squeegee.

Window cleaning equipment for high windows

Reach is the decision that drives every other choice. Working from a ladder above one storey is slow, and in most commercial contracts it is not permitted at all. Pole-fed cleaning keeps the operator on the ground and turns a two-person ladder job into a one-person job.

Match the pole to the building rather than buying the longest one available — a 9 metre pole is heavier to control all day, and on a single-storey house it is the wrong tool.

Waterfed poles and pure water systems

A waterfed pole feeds purified water through the shaft to a brush head. Because the water carries no dissolved minerals, the glass dries without spotting and needs no squeegee finish at all. It is the reason a modern crew can clean a double-storey office block from the pavement.

The pole is only half the system. Ordinary municipal water will leave marks as it dries, so it has to be stripped of dissolved solids first — measured in parts per million on a TDS meter at R290. Anything under roughly 10 ppm dries clear.

Commercial and industrial window cleaning equipment

Commercial work changes the specification rather than the technique. Volume is higher, so consumables get replaced on a schedule instead of when they fail; access is restricted, so the equipment has to reach from the ground; and the client usually wants the job done outside trading hours, which rules out anything noisy or slow to set up.

For contract work the practical starting point is a waterfed pole system with its own water supply, so the crew is not dependent on finding a tap on site. Add a spare set of rubbers and a second washer sleeve — a single blade nick will streak an entire elevation, and there is no recovering the time.

Starting a window cleaning business

The smallest viable kit for paid domestic work is a squeegee, a washer, a bucket and a 4 metre pole — under R3,000 all in, and enough to clean single-storey houses to a standard people will pay for. The 15 litre bucket at R460 is sized to take a 35cm washer without slopping.

The step that changes the economics is pure water. A waterfed setup roughly doubles the number of houses one person can do in a day and opens up double-storey work that would otherwise need a second person footing a ladder. Most cleaners make that jump once they are turning work away.
