The tools that actually clean the glass

A window is cleaned by two tools working together: a washer that wets and loosens the dirt, and a squeegee that removes the water in one stroke so nothing is left to dry. Everything else is detail work.

Why the rubber is the part that matters

The blade carries the working edge. Once that edge rounds over it pushes a film of water instead of cutting it off, and a single nick draws a line down every pane you touch. Rubber is the cheapest item in the kit and the one that decides whether the customer calls you back, so replace it early rather than fighting it.

Wipe the blade between strokes, and store the squeegee flat or blade-up — never resting on the edge.

Choosing a width

35cm crosses a normal domestic pane in one or two passes and stays controllable. Wider blades cover shopfronts faster but need even pressure across the whole width. Narrower blades are for glazing bars and small panes.
